Born in Fukuoka in 1987, YUI started out busking with her guitar before making it big with Sony Music. Her debut single Feel My Soul (2005) shot her into the spotlight, followed by hits like Rolling Star, LIFE, and Good-bye Days from her starring role in Midnight Sun.
Through the 2000s, every one of her albums topped the charts, making YUI one of Japan’s most beloved singer-songwriters. Known for her heartfelt lyrics and acoustic style, she also contributed memorable anime themes, including Again for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
In 2012, she stepped back from solo work and returned with her band Flower Flower, exploring a rawer, collaborative sound. Even after her hiatus, YUI’s music continues to inspire fans around the world—her songs remain timeless anthems of youth, love, and resilience.
